Tips & Tricks For Dealing With Orthodontic Appliance Issues
- Did a piece fall off of your appliance? If it is still attached, you can hold it in place with dental wax. If it’s completely off, put it in a Ziploc bag and bring it to your appointment.
- Do parts of the device hurt the soft tissues in the mouth? Put some dental wax on the spots that hurt until your mouth gets used to them.
- Is a wire poking you? Stick some dental wax on the end. If the wire has moved to one side, you can put it back into the tube with needle-nosed pliers.
- Feel pain in your teeth? Eat soft foods, rinse your mouth out with salt water, and if you need to, take an over-the-counter pain reliever.
Common Appliance Issues
If your braces are loose, you can use tweezers to try to put them back in place. But if they don’t stay in place, come to our orthodontic office in Kansas City, MO, so we can take a look and make sure everything is safe.
- Broken Wires/Brackets – If a wire or bracket has broken off, use dental wax to cover any sharp edges until your next appointment.
- Missing Rubber Bands – During treatment, rubber bands often go missing, but this is nothing to worry about. If you need more bands or help with putting them on, please let us know.
